You could be confused by the prospect of this hat at first — why would you need a ushanka in a hot desert? Well the Dutch realized something that us Midwesterners do - badlands and deserts can get quite cold.
The hat is a form factor that the Elmer Fudds of the world will already know and love — an insulated with a deployable brim, and ear flaps that wrap around the back of your head and chin with a soft layer of synthetic fur. The advantage of the fur besides being ultra comfy is that when surrounding your face it disperses harsh wind. Obviously, by not having a constant torrent of that dastardly air on your face and in your eyes, it keeps you much more warm and comfortable.
Live in an area where it doesn't snow? Desert camo patterns may also help you blend in more to the dry grassy environment during the wintertime. It's surprising that the Dutch of all people had this figured out...
